Festival Fashion
Summer is here, and so is one of the most exciting times of year – its festival season. Long weekends of tramping around in muddy willies, camping in a tent and seeing your favourite bands! Or maybe if you’re not as big a fan of the outdoor nightlife, just going for a day to see a couple of acts and avoiding the mess and madness of the campsite. Either way, there are a few essential items to make sure that your festival fashion is bang on target.
First and most importantly for any festival, no matter what the weather, is a good pair of willies. You may think that you can get away with trainers or boots, but don’t. Yes, the weather might be lovely all weekend, but the one time you don’t take your wellies is the time that it will pour with rain and leave you head to toe in muddy water! Wellies have never been the most fashion forward of festival gear, but nowadays you can get all kind of fantastically patterned pairs in bright colours.
Secondly, comfort is important at a festival so combining comfy t-shirts with fashionable styles and colours kills two birds with one stone. T-shirts are perfect festival wear as you can just throw them on and off. They’re good in warm weather on their own, and if it gets cold you can just pull something on top. Around this time, high street and online retailers start stocking ranges of t-shirt in an intentional festival style. Keep your eyes open for cheeky slogans like “Your tent or mine?”
One final item – your festival bag. The bag you take with you to a festival is extremely important as it will carry any valuable items that you might have with you if you don’t put them away in a locker. You need a small bag that you can sling across your body, keeping it close so that no one can steal it or stick their hand in it without your noticing. Choose a light canvas bag in tan for indie festivals like Bestival or Glastonbury, or a dark studded bag if you want a more rock chick style.
You will be able find these items on the high street and online quite easily – a good place to start looking is Joe Browns casual clothing range on their website. You can find anything from floral dresses to hoodies, all with a festival-feel to them!
